My first degree was a BS in Mathematics and then I went to law school and achieved a joint JD/MBA degree.  I worked as a trial attorney in Pensacola, Florida and then Georgia for 15 years. I decided to shift directions and obtain a Masters in Professional Counseling because the part I enjoyed most about being an attorney was counseling my clients. Through it all, I planted roots in Madison, Georgia, the perfect place to raise my family. I spent my own childhood in rural Kentucky before coming of age on the white sandy beaches of Florida's Panhandle. Experiencing both deep Appalachia sensibilities and Gulf Coast gratitudes have been tremendously impactful on my approach to life.

I am licensed in Georgia (LPC), nationally certified (NCC), and support clients both virtually and in-person. While studying at the University of Georgia, I interned at the University's Center for Counseling and Personal Evaluation servicing both enrolled students and community members.  I also had the honor of interning with Hope Haven of Northeast Georgia where I took part in empowering individuals with developmental disabilities through individual and group therapy.  After graduating, I began practicing with a community mental health provider serving children, adolescents, adults, and their families and then with a small private practice working with individuals, couples, and groups.  My own practice joins these experiences so I can now support both individual and community needs for people of all ages and backgrounds.

I have trained in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Somatic Experiencing (SE)and enjoy introducing and incorporating these scientifically supported concepts with clients who are interested. These work wonderfully well with anxiety and depression. Like many therapists, I also regularly use proven Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Processing (IPP) interventions.

I’m a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), the American Counseling Association (ACA), and the Athens PFLAG Chapter.  I also remain a non-practicing member of the Florida and Georgia Bars.

ABOUT GUTHRIE STROZIER | ASSOCIATE THERAPIST

I have always had a passion for helping.

Hello there! My name is Guthrie. I am a native Madisonian, born and raised in this beautiful little town. I currently live here with my husband, two cats, and a few too many horses.  I have always been a true animal lover, but was a bit too squeamish to become a veterinarian.  Instead, I chose to go to school to follow my passion to become a therapist.  I am proud to be a University of Georgia Double Dawg, having earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in Community Counseling with a specialist certificate in Gerontology.  After graduating, I took some time off to explore another area of interest: the movies!  For the past several years I have had the unique opportunity to work firsthand in the Hollywood of the South as a set painter and foreman.  It has been a fun and exciting experience, but my plan was always to return to therapy, so here I am!

I am a licensed associate professional counselor in Georgia (LAPC), am nationally certified (NCC), and will see clients both virtually and in-person. While studying at the University of Georgia, I was honored to intern at the Athens VA Clinic, where I counseled Veterans both individually and in groups.  Many of my clients were dealing with a variety of concerns, such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and grief.  While Veterans will always hold a special place in my heart, I was also inspired to obtain a certificate in Gerontology, so I could better serve another population I feel often gets overlooked.  I think we can all agree that aging invites its own challenges and deserves specific attention and care. It gives me great satisfaction to assist all ages as they move through life's transitions.

I’m a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), the American Counseling Association (ACA), and I am ready and waiting to meet you so we can navigate these life experiences together.

The best part of what we do is hold space and ignite transformation and meaning.

Resolving anxious feelings brings peace and clarity.

We enjoy assisting clients reduce anxious feelings with powerful tools, such as mindfulness, breathing techniques, and emotional processing.  Depression often emerges when we don't know how to process emotions. It can be slow work, but we enjoy assisting clients learn to access & process emotions, accept & nurture themselves, and heal past wounds.

Relationships are complex and  dynamic.  Creating healthy relationships can lay the foundation for a happy, meaningful life. We enjoy working with clients who seek confidence in navigating their relationships, from communication and emotional skills to understanding complex dynamics affecting how you are seen by your partner and how you understand your partner.

Emerging adulthood is an exciting time of transformation and important decisions. It can be overwhelming,

as well as a great  opportunity to direct one’s life path from a place of self-knowledge, support, and empowerment. It's never too early to resolve childhood patterns and traumas–making way for one’s true strengths, passions, and purpose.

Resolving trauma is a powerful way to transform one’s life. It is our honor to provide a safe context and relationship in which you can explore, understand, and heal the experiences that have stayed with and negatively impacted you. If you have unresolved experiences from any stage of your life, let's break that tether now.

Grief is a universal experience that connects us all as human beings.  Many aspects of grief are extremely painful, but normal.  If your grief has been prolonged and persistent or  has impacted your ability to function and stay connected to other important relationships or activities, it may be time to consider therapy as a resource for coping and relieving your grief.

You don't have to be in a crisis to benefit from therapy.  Therapy is a great resource for developing insight, processing emotions, gaining support and accountability, or just to check in with your current path. Reaching out for an outside perspective is an excellent way to stay engaged  and intentional about your life.

We enjoy taking a non-judgmental and collaborative approach to the therapeutic relationship.
