INDIVIDUAL THERAPY with  VANESSA E. OUTLAW or GUTHRIE STROZIER

TRAUMA & PTSD

Almost everyone has experienced some degree of trauma in their lives. It can be helpful to view trauma as any stressful event or circumstance that overwhelms an ability to cope.  This can be an incredibly frightening event, such as an event of relational abuse, a sudden death, witnessing a tragic accident, natural disaster, or a near-death experience.  Trauma can also result from more chronic forms of stress, such as repetitive emotional neglect, shame, bullying, even unstable or inconsistent living environments. Even harmful patterns of how we were treated in our families growing up can cumulatively impact our nervous systems and color our view of life.

All forms of unresolved trauma are important to address.  In response to trauma, it is common to experience either too much arousal (anxiety, vigilance or constantly rushing) or too little arousal (depression, numbness, or lethargy). Therapy can provide a safe place to navigate intense emotions, sensations and memories with someone who remains grounded and trained to assist you face and manage those complex responses.
